PaperVox turns documents into audio you can follow word by word, with study tools on top. This page explains what data that involves.
What we collect
- Account: your email address, your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google, and your preferences (voice, reading speed, reader theme).
- Documents: the PDFs you upload or import from arXiv, the text extracted from them, and your reading position, notes and bookmarks.
- Study content: when you use Professor Mode, the passage you select (or the section you ask a quiz or summary for) and what is generated from it.
- Usage: counts of documents, pages, audio generated and study requests, so that fair-use limits can be applied.
- Technical logs: request times, error codes and the account or document involved in a request, for diagnosing problems.
We do not use advertising or analytics trackers. We set only the cookies needed to keep you signed in.
How we use it
To turn your documents into audio and synced text, to remember where you stopped, to generate explanations and study aids when you ask for them, to apply usage limits, to send account emails (confirmation and password reset), and to keep the service secure and working. We do not sell your data and we do not use your documents to train models.
Who processes it for us
PaperVox runs on these services, which handle data on our behalf:
- Supabase: account sign-in and the database.
- Cloudflare: file storage (R2), delivery of audio files, DNS and incoming support email.
- Modal: the computers that read documents and generate speech.
- Vercel: hosting of the website.
- Google: sign in with Google, and the Gemini API that writes explanations, quizzes and summaries from the text you select.
- Resend: sending account emails.
Audio and study results are shared by content
To save cost, generated audio and generated study results are cached and reused when the same text is requested again, including by other people. They are stored under names derived from the text, not from your account, and they are not linked to you. Your uploaded PDF itself is stored privately and is only accessible to your account.
Keeping and deleting your data
Deleting a document in the app removes the document, its extracted text, your notes, bookmarks and reading position, and the stored PDF. Uploads that fail or are abandoned are removed automatically. Cached audio and study results are not tied to you and are removed later when no document uses that text.
To delete your account and everything linked to it, email support@papervox.app from the address you signed up with.
Your choices
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it by emailing support@papervox.app. You can stop using Google sign-in by using email and password instead.
Children
PaperVox is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
